Our report delves into the need for the fashion industry to undergo a radical transformation toward regenerative practices and a just transition. Spearheaded by Safia Minney MBE, Fashion Declares initiated the Regenerative Fashion Conference, strategically timed the day before London Fashion Week 2023. This report is a summary of the panel sessions held that day – sharing best practices in all aspects of sustainability, a call to action, and deeper discussions about redesigning the industry to operate within planetary boundaries and redistributive approaches to promote social justice.

The fashion sector currently contributes to 5% of total global greenhouse gas emissions, a figure projected to soar to 25% by 2050. With six out of nine planetary boundaries surpassed, the industry needs to cut fossil fuel dependency, promote truly circular models and reduce production by 75-95%.
This report offers practical solutions. It advocates for embracing second-hand, rental, and repair, while prioritising low-impact materials. It underscores the pivotal role of living wages, gender equity, regenerative agriculture, and craft to strengthen communities and nature.
A key takeaway from the Regenerative Fashion Conference shows how everyone in the industry has a role to play. We were delighted to host over 20 brands, experts, and sustainable fashion leaders across three panel sessions—Nature & Climate; People & Livelihoods; and Inspiring Cultural Change.
